Prepare For An Engagement Shoot Pt.1 | St. Augustine Photographer

Hi y’all!

I decided that I really want to share some insight on how to prepare for an engagement shoot. I know some people get nervous but with a little preparation, it can go really smoothly! This post is one of two parts that I will be featuring here on my blog! In two weeks, I will share the rest of my tips 🙂

This is a more informative blog post and I’m really excited to share this information with you. This information I’m sharing I usually only share for my engagement shoots.

Usually, the photographer will go over the details with you but this will also help you get the best photos!

Be on time

Being on time is SOOO crucial. I cannot emphasize this enough! There usually limited natural light for optimal shooting. I mostly shoot with natural light, so the sun dictates how long I can photograph you. Sometimes, photoshoots can even start very early into the morning. Just so you know, most shoots run from 1.5 to 2 hours long.

Check out the photographer’s website

This will help you visualize how your photos might come out and it really helps with posing. I recommend practicing in front of the mirror so you can feel comfortable posing. This will help you see what poses work and what might not work.  Be sure to check out some of my Engagement Sessions for some ideas.

Bring clothing that reflects you

As a photographer, I want you to be comfortable in whatever you wear. I also want to you to have the best images. If you decide on wearing stripes or prints, just make sure one of you offsets the other. I recommend one person can wear prints/stripes/patterns while the other person can wear solid colors. I recommend bringing at least two outfit changes – the 1st one is a casual look while the other one is more dressy and sophisticated. You should always comfortable enough to reach out to your photographer if you have any questions!

Also…

  • Bring a back-up outfit for each outfit you bring (just in case)
  • Make sure all clothes are ironed and pressed
  • All clothes should be free from any obvious logos
  • Be sure clothes are lint-free and hair-free
  • Make sure your shoes are comfortable & without scuffs

I personally love making the beautiful images that I do and I am so thrilled to share happy moments between couples! While these tips are focused on engagement photography, it also applies to any kind of photoshoot.

I would love to hear some of your own tips! Share by commenting below.

Xoxo,
